Bindi Irwin married longtime boyfriend Chandler Powell in a very intimate ceremony at an empty Australia Zoo on March 25th. After planning the day for nearly a year, the couple had to change all of their plans last-minute in order to accomade the health and safety of friends and family due to the COVID-19 crisis.
After getting engaged last year, the couple have been very open about sharing the details of their relationship. In a long Instagram post regarding their decision to have a very private ceremoy Irwin wrote:
“This was a very difficult decision but important to keep everyone safe. We wish all of our friends and family could have been there with us, however it’s lovely that we will be able to share photos and videos,” she continued. “Right now we’re encouraging the world to hold onto hope and love, which will carry us forward during this profound time in history.”
Irwin wrote that her mother, Terri, helped her get ready in the morning, her brother Robert walked her down the aisle, and they lit a candle in father Steve Irwin's memory. The day seems to have been everything the couple could have wanted despite the global circumstances.
The couple met in 2013 when Powell's family visited the Australia Zoo and Bindi was giving tours on that particular day. The couple "hit it off right away" and the rest has been history.
