The TargonaÂ Zoo in Australia is celebrating the birthdays of two very special additions!
These two echidnas were born back in August under their conservation program. It’s super rare for these births, and there were only two other echidna’s born in the same program… Over 30 years ago!
Today, @tarongazoo announced the birth of two short-beaked echidna puggles which hatched in August – a rare captive breeding success for the species, with only two others born at the zoo in more than 30 years.

These new babies, called puggles, are a bizarre mix of weird and adorable. It’s hard to look away!
Echidnas are the only other egg-laying mammals in Australia in addition to the platypus.
