Financial Trouble
The family friend who was abroad was having some financial trouble and was unable to keep up the payments on the mortgage. The lender was forced to foreclose on the property and sent it to auction. The house was then picked up by an investment company. All this was happening without the knowledge of Angie, who was living in what she thought, was her house.
