While the news of the four fetuses was celebrated by Raunigk and her family, her doctors were very concerned. One of her doctors wanted her to take selective reduction, which would mean terminating one or more fetuses to relieve the stress of giving birth to so many babies at such an advanced age. But Raunigk refused this advice. Despite getting criticism from several people all over the world, she was not ashamed of her decision to keep all her babies.
