Working as an archaeologist then seemed like a glorified version of what we did in our yards at 10 and 11 years old, and in a way, it sort of is. However, with loads of education and evidence, when an archaeologist begins an excavation, the results can be pretty remarkable. Here, we’ve put together a list of the most bizarre and inexplicable finds of all time, some will even make you wonder if they’re in fact from this world…

Göbekli Tepe

Turkey’s historic site Göbekli Tepe was abandoned 12,500 years ago, and predating Stonehenge by 6,000 years. The details of the structure’s function remain a mystery, but many believe it was built as the world’s first temple on a hill.

The Unfinished Obelisk

The unfinished obelisk in Aswan, Egypt, is the largest ancient obelisk known to man. It’s nearly one third larger than any ancient Egyptian obelisk ever built, measuring in at 138 feet and weighing nearly 1,200 tons. The creators of the obelisk began to carve it directly out of bedrock, but cracks appeared in the granite and the project was abandoned.
