Pro Hockey Players Buys Stadium Suite for Underprivileged Children

Last week, a NHL team called the Montreal Canadiens announced that one of their players Jonathan Drouin purchased one of the suites in their home stadium, the Bell Centre, to provide a means for underprivileged kids to watch games. Drouin is partnering with the Canadiens Children’s Foundation to host children of all ages in their home games. The 22-year old Quebec native has been very active in making sure he gives back to those less fortunate.

Drouin is making a personal contribution to the suite and its reservation. His personal donation of $165,000 will have the suite open for several games. The initiative is called the “Jo et ses Champions” (Jo and his champions). This is not the first time that Drouin is helping out in Montreal. Last September, he donated over $500,000 to the Fondation du Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM), and a pledged to help raise $5 million for the hospital. Drounin was acquired by the Canadiens last summer, and he is already involved in so many projects to better the community.

“From the first day I got here, I wanted to get involved and do something for children by giving them an opportunity to enjoy memorable experiences. By giving them a chance to attend a hockey game, I am hoping that an evening in the suite will provide the kids and their families with some relief from the personal hardships they are facing,” said Drouin in a statement. “They’ll have a chance to be together and have a great time, and for me, it’s an opportunity to contribute in my own way to their well-being.”
