Tyson Recalls 12 Million Pounds of Frozen Chicken Strips

Tyson Foods is recalling almost 12 million pounds of frozen, ready-to-eat chicken strip products to possible contamination with foreign matter. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Services, the frozen chicken strip products may be polluted with metal.

The products were shipped nationwide and have use by dates from October 1, 2019 until March 7, 2020. The products subject to recall are labeled with “P-7221” on the back of each package.

“Consumers expect that the food they eat is safe. In their best interest and in an abundance of caution we’re taking quick and decisive action to expand this recall,” said Barbara Masters, the vice president of regulatory food police, food and agriculture for Tyson Foods in a statement.

“We have discontinued use of the specific equipment believed to be associated with the metal fragments,” she continued, “and we will be installing metal-detecting X-ray machinery to replace the plant’s existing metal-detection system.”
