The Dumbest Purchases Made By Athletes

Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson’s fall from grace isn’t exactly a huge secret. So is his spending habits too, which is why he reportedly was once drowning in debt and faced bankruptcy.

Of the famous boxer’s many peculiar purchases, him buying 2 bengal tigers for an estimated $140,000 is probably on top of the list. Not only did the tigers cost him a lot of money to buy, feeding them reportedly cost him around $8,000 a month, while insurance added another $2,000. He also had to pay an animal trainer $125,000 a year to take care of both tigers whenever he wasn’t around. Do the math, and you’ll see how someone can burn through $300 million in career earnings in less than a decade.

Lesson learned, tigers are a bad investment.
